Built for Everyone
GOLD exists to close the gap between access and ability for older adults. That commitment shapes everything we do, including how we build and maintain our website. We believe digital experiences should be usable by everyone, regardless of ability, age, or technology.
Our Standard
We strive to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards across our website. This means we design and build for:
- People who use screen readers
- People who navigate by keyboard only
- People with low vision or color blindness
- People who need to enlarge text or adjust contrast
- People who have difficulty using a mouse or trackpad
- People who use voice control software
- People with cognitive differences who benefit from clear language and consistent navigation
What We've Built In
- Semantic HTML for screen reader compatibility
- Keyboard navigation support throughout the site
- Alt text on meaningful images
- High color contrast between text and backgrounds
- Resizable text that works at 200% zoom without breaking
- Clear, plain language in our content
- Consistent navigation patterns across pages
- Form labels and error messages that are clear and accessible
Live Captioning for Virtual Workshops

Ongoing Work
Accessibility is not a checkbox, it's an ongoing commitment. We regularly review our website and content, and we welcome feedback from users who encounter barriers. We work with accessibility experts including Kathryn Braidic from The Ohio State University, whose guidance helps shape our approach.
